What to Expect in Counselling and EMDR in Rickmansworth
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You deserve to know what it will be like and to feel in control of the pace. This page walks you through how we begin and what you can expect in sessions with me in Rickmansworth and online across the UK and Europe.

Before your first session
We begin with a short free call. You can share a little about what brings you, ask questions, and get a feel for how I work. There is no pressure to decide anything on the spot. If it feels right, we will agree a first appointment time and talk about what would be most helpful to focus on.
I offer in person sessions in Croxley Green, Rickmansworth. I also offer counselling online across the UK and Europe.
For fees and my 24 hour cancellation policy, please see the Fees and Sessions page.
Your First Counselling or EMDR Session in Rickmansworth
Your first session is a gentle start. We will get to know each other, talk about what you would like from therapy, and agree a pace that feels safe for you. You do not have to share everything at once. You can ask for pauses, ask for clarity, or change direction at any time. Sessions last 50 minutes.
How Trauma-Informed Counselling Sessions Unfold
Counselling gives you time to slow down and make sense of what is happening beneath the surface. Together we notice patterns, explore feelings, and build practical ways to steady anxiety and support confidence. Some people like a small practice to try between sessions such as a simple grounding exercise. This is always your choice.
EMDR Therapy in Rickmansworth
Alongside counselling I offer EMDR. EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their intensity and feel less in charge of daily life. It can be especially supportive for trauma, anxiety, panic, and experiences that still feel raw.
How we approach EMDR Therapy Together
• We start with history and planning so I understand what you want help with
• We build safety and skills first such as grounding and resourcing
• When you are ready we reprocess one target at a time using eye movements, taps, or sounds
• We end with time to settle and notice changes

You do not need to retell every detail for EMDR to help. Sessions always move at a pace that feels safe. EMDR sessions are offered in person in Rickmansworth and in some cases online.

Confidentiality and Comfort in Counselling
Your privacy matters. I follow NCPS ethical guidance, use supervision, and keep brief clinical notes securely. If we ever have concerns about risk or safety, I will explain clearly what the next steps are and we will decide together how to proceed whenever possible.
